Overview

We have continued to support our 7.x accounts since it was a very dependable release for Windows XP that has been used on millions for computers.  However, we are now getting close to the next major release which requires all accounts to be upgraded to version 8.x.

What to Expect

We will setup your account to upgrade to the latest backup software and the update will happen automatically during your backup.  We will also email you a notification to let you know your account is set to upgrade.  There is nothing additional you need to do.

The first backup after the upgrade will take a little longer as the software captures additional security descriptors related to the files in your backup.  After the first backup you will be back to quick and efficient daily backup.

After the upgrade you should check your backups set to ensure you are backing up all your data files.  The new backup rules work differently than 7.x and while the default rules will work for most people it is always a good idea to verify that you have the correct files and folders selected for backup.  With version 8 it is very easy to see the files and folders you have selected and make changes as needed.

Changes

Version 8.x of the software provides the following enhancements:

  • All new interface is easier to navigate
  • Backup set is more intuitive and you can easily modify as needed
  • Less intrusive during the backup – allows you to run the backup while working on the computer if needed
  • Open file support – backup files that are open using Windows Volume Shadow Copy service
  • Enhanced Account Management website allows you to review backup history, update your account information, retrieve files with MyRoam and reinstall the application.
  • Notification of backup results or missed backup on your computer

The following features in 7.x are no longer supported:

  • Mapped drives – If you have multiple computers to backup and were using mapped drives please contact us
  • Account sharing – you can now use MyRoam to restore files to any computer without needing to setup account sharing
